Senator Joseph Bruno Honors Mary Ellen Whitney as the 2005 Woman of Distinction

On Tuesday, June 14, Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno honored Mary Ellen Whitney as the 2005 Woman of Distinction for the 43rd Senate District at the 8th Annual Senate Women of Distinction ceremony, honoring women for their outstanding contributions enriching the quality of life in their communities and beyond.

Ms. Whitney, the founder of STRIDE, is devoted to helping children with disabilities through athletics.

“Mary Ellen Whitney is a dedicated individual whose passion for helping others knows no limit,” said Senate Majority Leader Joseph L Bruno. “Her tremendous efforts at STRIDE have helped numerous children with disabilities gain confidence and independence through participating in athletic activities.

Ms. Whitney sets an exemplary model for all New Yorkers, and I am extremely proud to honor her as a Woman of Distinction.
