Skiing/snowboarding at Jiminy Peak or Catamount Snowshoe/Cross-Country Program Opens - Lessons and hikes begin at Poestenkill's Pine Ridge Center on Sunday's Winter Bowling Begins - 10 week bowling league begins at Bowling Green Lanes in East Greenbush. Winter Swimming Begins - Recreational and instructional swim sessions begin at the Capital District YMCA in East Greenbush, NY. February Skiing/snowboarding at Jiminy Peak or Catamount March Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project Learn to Ski weekend for Returning War heroes wounded while serving our country. Welcome Reception at the Crowne Plaza in Albany followed by a weekend of skiing at Jiminy Peak, MA. The Great Race - This Race is exclusively for people with disabilities to showcase their abilities and culmination of skills learned through the season. Typically attended by hundreds, hosted at Jiminy Peak, MA. April Challenger Baseball - Little League season begins on Twin Town fields of North Greenbush. Spring Swimming - Recreational and instruction swim sessions begin two locations: Capital District YMCA in East Greenbush, NY and Berkshire YMCA in Pittsfield, MA. Spring Bowling Begins - 10 week bowling league begins at Bowling Green Lanes in East Greenbush. May June STRIDE Classic Golf Tournament - Golfers of all abilities are invited to this "scramble" style golf tournament at the Winding Brook Country Club in Chatham, NY. Camp STRIDE - First weekend camp trip is scheduled for Thompson's Lake. Children learn to live outdoors in tents and participate in activities that include boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and sports. They visit the NYS Thatcher Nature Center. STRIDE Sailing Programs Begin - at the New York Sailing School in New Rochelle Marina. STRIDE Lake George Sailing Programs Begins -One of our two unique courses in sailing instruction offering an amazing opportunity to learn how to sail and experience the wind in the sails. Annual Bowling Banquet and Awards Ceremony July Camp STRIDE - Second weekend camp trip is scheduled for Moreau Lake State Park. Children learn to live outdoors in tents and participate in activities that include boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and sports. Spring Swimming - Recreational and instruction swim sessions begin two locations: Capital District YMCA in East Greenbush, NY and Berkshire YMCA in Pittsfield, MA. Summer Bowling Begins - (tentative) 10 week bowling league begins at Bowling Green Lanes in East Greenbush. August STRIDE Lake George Sailing Programs Begins - One of our two unique courses in sailing instruction offering an amazing opportunity to learn how to sail and experience the wind in the sails while on beautiful Lake George. Camp STRIDE - Third weekend camp trip. Children learn to live outdoors in tents and participate in activities that include boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and sports. September Camp STRIDE - Fourth weekend camp trip. Children learn to live outdoors in tents and participate in activities that include boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and sports. Lake George Sailing Program Weekend - The 5 week sailing course culminates with an exciting weekend YMCA's Camp Chingachgook on Lake George. October Ski Instructor Orientation - New and returning instructors; you will meet many STRIDE volunteers and learn about our program: the students, the adaptive equipment, an introduction to teaching techniques and the facilities at Jiminy Peak and Catamount Ski Areas. Fall Swimming - Recreational and instruction swim sessions begin two locations: Capital District YMCA in East Greenbush, NY and Berkshire YMCA in Pittsfield, MA. Fall Bowling Begins - 10 week bowling league begins at Bowling Green Lanes in East Greenbush. November Mountain Refresher - Both Jiminy Peak and Catamount offer instructor training and lift evacuation review. Training includes mountain policies and formalities for returning employees. The Great NYS Snow Expo - STRIDE maintains a booth and raffle at this show to educate and inform the public about adaptive winter sports. STRIDE Annual Ball and Auction - Our premier fund raising event includes a dinner-dance, costume judging, silent and live auction, awards ceremony, and unveiling of the new STRIDE video. Hosted at various Capital District Country Clubs. Volunteer/ Instructor Clinics - Inside and on the snow instruction on adaptive ski/snowboarding. Morning and afternoon clinics in all areas of adaptation including: mono and bi-ski, tri and four tracking, blind, and developmental disabilities. These are held every weekend that nature and the mountains provide snow. December Volunteer/Instructor Clinics - On the snow instruction on adaptive ski/snowboarding. Ski Programs Open - Lessons begin for STRIDE participants and the general public at Jiminy Peak and Catamount. |
